Whether it's in a seminar in Shakespeare or popular culture, a poetry-writing workshop, or a course in 电影making, 女权主义, or the African 美国 novel, as a student in the Department of 英语 and 语言艺术 at Morgan State University, you'll find yourself in a stimulating environment with some of the most celebrated and dynamic professors in the thriving field of 英语 and Language arts.

更甚于以往, employers want to hire graduates with a breadth of knowledge and the critical thinking skills needed for the fast-paced environment of the 21st century workplace. Our faculty prepare a variety of scholars for whatever sort of challenge they may face, whether it is in business, 教育, 法律, journalism or the vast array of careers in which 英语 majors thrive.

The major in 英语 requires a total of 54-60 credits, depending on the student's choice of concentration. The 33-credit CORE sequence includes courses in 英语, 美国, and African 美国 文学, along with courses in literary criticism and the history of the 英语 语言. Students may form concentrations in Creative Writing, 语言艺术, or Literature and Language. The department is also home to the  undergraduate major in 电影剧本创作 and 动画 (SWAN).

Students outside of the major will fulfill their 英语 and Humanities core requirements with the department, and we encouage these students to explore our catalog for courses that may align with their personal, professional or academic interests.

The theme of the conference is African 美国s and the Arts as established by The Association for the Study of African 美国 Life and History.  具体地说, “African 美国 art is infused with African, 加勒比, and the Black 美国 lived experiences. In the fields of visual and performing arts, 文学, 时尚, 民间传说, 语言, 电影, 音乐, 体系结构, culinary and other 形式 of cultural expression the African 美国 influence has been paramount. African 美国 artists have used art to preserve history and community memory as well as for empowerment.”  For the 2024 conference, we are particularly interested in 詹姆斯·鲍德温’s contribution to African 美国s and the Arts. 

Morgan State University will celebrate Baldwin throughout 2024 with readouts, 讲座, community events, the Presidential Distinguished Lecture, collaborations with external units, 还有更多.
